With the price of heating oil in the face of winter weather slowly moving into Maine, Box of Maine has partnered with Maine Veterans Project to heat the homes of Maine veterans.

Doc Goodwin, the president of the Maine Veterans project, and Daniel Finnemore, the president of Box of Maine, worked with Crafted Downeast to create 600 dog tag ornaments from locally sourced cedar. The ornaments are being sold at Box of Maine's new retail location in Brewer, with all proceeds used for heating oil in the tanks of veterans.

Box of Maine has also created a "Support a Maine Soldier" box that allows people to purchase a gift box that the company will send to a Maine soldier deployed overseas this holiday season. They aim is to "send a taste of home to those who are selflessly serving our country, away from family and friends, all around the world."

"This month is all about the veterans," said Finnemore, a recent Mainebiz "40 Under 40" honoree. "We have always had the desire to help take care of those who have served our country, and this November, we are calling on the support of our community to help us with this task."

Dog tags can be purchased at boxofmaine.com or in person at 34 Abbott St. in Brewer.
